August 2-3, 2013

Greetings Gang,

 

This is an update to the 2013 Reunion information that was posted to the "Ketelsen Family Blog 2011" in July 2012. 

 

Friday:  August 2, 2013, cookout and get-together will be held at Scott and Shannon (Ketelsen) Jones, 13561 Marinda St., Omaha, Ne. 68144; (402-637-6979) any time after 3:00 p.m.  Everything provided, however, BYOB.  Directions from 132nd and West Center:  Go west on West Center to 135th St., turn north (right); go approximately 4-5 blocks north to Marinda, turn west (left).  Shannon & Scott's house is the second on the left from the corner, pale yellow with red roof. 

 

Saturday:  Mahoney State Park, Exit 426 off of Interstate 80, 402-944-2523.  Visit the park on the web at: www.OutdoorNebraska.org.  The reunion will be at Leo and Irene Timmerman Wild Turkey Picnic Shelter (#11) located just past the stables and not far from the swimming park.  We have the shelter from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.  We will shoot for the main meal at noon with left overs for evening.  Bring desserts & salads.   There will be a day fee for entrance to Mahoney.

 

There are tons of things to do in Omaha.  Henry Doorly Zoo has been rated #1 in the USA.  The Safari Park is associated with the zoo and just across the road from Mahoney.  We have a pass  and can take carloads of folks through the Safari park if there is interest.  Lauritsen Gardens across from the zoo at 10th & I80 is an amazing venture.  Jocelyn Museum is advertising free admission.  There is a great river walk that connects with the downtown lakes and the Old Market at 10th & Jackson.  Great malls - just ask Sharon.  Strategic Air Command Museum is right next to Mahoney Park.

 

We have reserved a block of rooms at the closest motel in the area.  Motel Super 8 - Gretna, Interstate 80 Exit 432, 402-332-5188.  When making reservations ask for the Ketelsen Family Runion block and discount.  They quoted $78.29 plus tax.  They have an indoor pool with hottub, free breakfast, free WIFI.  There is a McDonald's next door and a Denneys/Flying J close.  The motel is next to the Nebraska Crossings outlet mall.

 

You could try and see if any rooms are available at the Peter Kiewit Lodge.  There was a mass scramble July/Aug and a couple of the clan got rooms.  Since then, we have checked and have found more rooms available.  The cabins are hard to get, as well.  There are some camping areas that can be reserved and then there are some camping areas on a first come first serve basis.

 

The  town of Gretna is six miles from Mahoney on highway 6 for gas, groceries, etc. Also, Omaha/Millard is just a little further with major super markets, Walmart, Sams and Costco.    

 

So we have some idea for how many to plan food,  please let us know how many in your group will attend Friday night, Saturday or both. 

 

We are excited about seeing everyone and hope we will have a great crowd.

2013 Reunion

                  2013 Reunion - Already?!?!?

Hi family.  Yes I know the reunion is a little more than a year away, BUT, I just found out that the rules for reserving Mahoney State Park (in Nebraska) camp sites, lodge rooms, and cabins have changed.   You need to reserve the accommodations one year in advance.  Since the reunion date will be Friday evening August 2, 2013 and Saturday, August 3, 2013, you can call or go on line this August 2nd to get your reservations starting at 9:00 am CDST.  So, you see, if you want to stay in the park, you will have to get busy VERY SOON!  Everything in this park books up very quickly (like in an hour or two sometimes). 

We will try and get a picnic shelter as close to the swimming complex as possible for Friday and Saturday.  If anyone thinks we will need Sunday also, let me know soon.  The shelters run $50.00 per day.  You can find out about anything you want to know about the park, like prices, by clicking on the following link: http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/Parks/park_pages/Mahoney_SP/index.asp
For those who do not wish to stay in the park, there are many other options, but it will be a little drive (+/-10miles).  Get on the web.

There are many things to do in and around this park and we plan to put up some ideas on the blog later.  Many of you may wish to plan a vacation around the reunion to do things like visit the "Father Land," Plainview, NE, or visit other relatives/friends, etc. 

I am going to try and phone all the heads of the various family groups to get them up to speed on this post.  I will ask them to contact all of their family members to get everyone to this blog.  When you read this, be sure everyone in your family knows how to get here and so they can make their reservations if they wish!  TIME IS SHORT!!!
